Dragonflies have been existing and evolving for the last 325 million years. They breed in a clean aquatic ecosystem, therefore, are a reliable indicator of freshwater quality. They have a complex life cycle in which most of it is spent as larvae. They stay in the water for two months to five years, depending on the species and then emerge as adult dragonflies. The adults hardly survive for a few days or a month. Both as larvae and adults, they are the most efficient hunters and agile fliers, catching up to 95% of the prey they pursue. Dragonflies are the bio indicators of fresh water ecosystems. They need clean water for proper development and are very sensitive to pollution and change in temperature. An abundance of dragonflies indicates a healthy ecosystem with good quality water. Dragonflies often visible in pottery, rock paintings, statues and jewellery. Found in tropical and temperate regions. Dragonflies commonly inhabit rice fields and keep the pest population in check. With the drastic change in climate and loss of wetland habitat, dragonflies are vanishing rapidly.

Description:

Since dragonfly skeleton inspired structure can be beneficial in architectural structures for dynamic applications. Factors such as corrugations could aid is reducing wind drag and resistance in high rise sculpture. The physical mechanism of the wing and joints would be helpful in designing moving parts for dynamic structures in this art installation. Steel is used extensively to make the rice plant & the dragonfly as it is versatile and properties like its flexibility, ductility, easy fabrication in different sizes, fire resistance, pest, and insect resistant, moisture and weather resistance will make it a robust outdoor sculpture.  These shapes in both the wings, are filled with distinct handcrafted terracota tiles with motifs of historical monuments, dance forms, flora, fauna showcasing rich cultural heritage and few are filled with prismatic glasses that celebrate different colours of life when it falls on ground (representing equality for all) and few are filled with solar panels that generate electricity to make it a self sufficient sculpture. The expressive dynamic biomimitic art sculpture tales of architectural wonders and engineering marvels of India. Morphology of the dragonfly wing is an optimal natural construction built by a complex patterning process, developed through evolution as a response to force flows and material organisation. The seemingly random variations of quadrangular and polygonal patterns follow multi-hierarchical organizational logics enabling it to alter between rigid and flexible configurations. Fresh water drops are made with glass balls as it is falling from these beautiful rice plant at the arrival of monsoon rain.
