How They Work?
The retina of our eyes has 2 kinds of light-sensitive cells called rods & cones. While rods help us to see in low light, cones help us to perceive colors. Further there are 3 types of cone cells – red, blue & green, to detect colors.
When light falls on the retina, it activates these cone cells and perceives colors as they are. However, in color blindness, one or more cone cells are either absent or are not functioning properly.
Coolwinks Color Blind Glasses assist vision of people with red-green color blindness by filtering wavelength of light selectively to bring enhanced color perception. Coolwinks Color Blind Glasses work for 80% of the red-green colorblind people.

Know Color Blindness Better
Color blindness is a color vision deficiency leading to the incapacity of the eyes to see and differentiate between various colors. The condition is genetic & is often due to a deficiency in the cones or photoreceptors of the eyes.
A person affected from color blindness may see the colors as washed out or confuse two colors as one making it hard to figure the difference. While some people find out about the inaccuracy in the color perception early in life, many people remain unaware until later years when they appear for comprehensive eye exams for their career choices.
Did you know: Approximately 1 in 12 men (8%) & 1 in 200 women (0.5%) in the world are color blind.
Types of Color Blindness
The two most common types of color blindness are
Red-Green Color Blindness
Red-green color blindness is a hereditary condition which limits the functioning of red or green photoreceptors/cone. A person suffering from red green color blindness will see colors green and red mixed up. Not only this, he may also confuse all colors which have red mixed in them like pink, violet etc.
Protanomaly
There’s a mild variation of red photoreceptor cones which makes colors like yellow, orange & red appear greener.
Protanopia
Since none of the red cones work in this condition, one may experience colors green and orange appearing as yellow. Also, Red appears Black.
Deuteranomaly
In this condition, due to the improper functioning of the green cone cells, green and yellow colors appear red. Similarly, differentiating violet from blue become difficult.
Deuteranopia
The green cone cells in this condition do not work/are not present. This makes the color red appear dull and brownish yellow. Color green would look dull brown or beige.
Blue-Yellow Color Blindness
Here the blue cone cells either function improperly or are not present at all.
Similar to Red-Green Color Blindness, a person with Blue-Yellow blindness won’t be able to identify difference between yellow and blue colors and colors which have slight elements of each e.g. violet, orange & green.
Tritanomaly
Here color blue appears green due to the limited function of the blue cone cells. Shades of pink and red become hard to distinguish.
Tritanopia
Due to the absence of the blue cone cells, color blue appears green.
